Morning donuts

It was just a casual comment I made about a plate of donuts on the cover of Better Homes and Gardens magazine. "Don't these look yummy?" That was all I said. Next morning, I awoke to the most delicious aroma. I thought I was still dreaming. Turns out, Sweet Husband surprised me with home-made donuts. Just like the ones on the front cover of the magazine! This man is an over achiever I tell you.  Home-made! I didn't have the heart to tell him that the "Heavenly Donut Shop" was open 24 hours a day and was just down the street. Nor did I have the heart to tell him that I might as well scotch tape the delicious donuts directly to my thighs because that's where it's going anyway.
No.....I just smiled and hugged him and told him how wonderful he is. The donuts were good too. And pretty on the plate. Not so much on the thighs. This is a picture of what ten bazillion calories look like.

The Summer of 1970

We had just graduated from high school in Tucson, Arizona. My two best friends, Kathy and Kathy made us the famous team of the  "3 Kathy's". We promptly moved out of our parents house into our very own apartment....or should I say Trailer.....which it was. We partied. We worked. We partied some more. The memories of our first taste of independence and our first true adult responsibilities flood through my mind. I remember the smell of the first summer rainstorms on the desert floor, the music we listened to, the crazy clothes, "pool jumping", flower power, our boys in Vietnam. I remember the dreams us 3 Kathy's shared of how we wanted our lives to evolve. There was never a summer in my life like the summer 1970.
Flash forward forty one years.................................
Both Kathy's and I have re-connected in the past few weeks. Then, Lynda and Bob and a few other friends wrote. That crazy e-mail!  Although 41 years have passed, I still know their hearts. These are people who helped shape my life by the experiences I had with each of them.
None of our lives turned out exactly as we expected. No, I didn't get a job in Disneyland as a Mermaid at the Submarine ride. Nor did I ever audition for a part in "Hair".  And I never became a famous movie star. But I did get the man of my dreams after only a few mishaps. And I did get to have my babies. A boy and a girl. Just as I had planned. Dreams do come true. All in all, the "3 Kathy's" are still a team and our lives have all turned out amazingly well, much to our parents surprise.
